Structured Practice for Putting
Next time you play a round of Golf, make a note on your score card of how many short putts you missed as a result of over hitting your first putt or you could have just hit a good shot close to the hole. Whether it is between 1 and 20 it should still be seen as an area to improve.
Below are some simple practice drills to improve short distance putting and distance control. Not only will these practice drills lower your scores on the course it will make your stroke more repetitive, build your confidence and improve concentration.
10 in a Row
- Pick a straight putt, measure a putter’s length from the hole and mark that position.
- Have 10 balls positioned opposite the marker
- Proceed in trying to hole every one of the 10 putts bearing in mind if you miss 1 you have to start the routine again
You can not leave the green until you have completed the task. If 10 in row becomes to easy then increase the number of putts by 5 to 15, if that then becomes to easy increase by 5 again to 20 and so on ( Monty used to do 50 in a row )
10 in a Line
- Line up 10 balls directly behind one another 2 foot apart between each ball
- Position a club 2 foot behind the whole
- Proceed in trying to hole each putt and not hit the club
- I the ball finishes short you have to start again, if the ball hits the club you have to start again. The aim is to either hole the putt or the ball should finish between the club and the hole.
Good luck
