BIOGRAPHY AND PHILOSOPHY

I turned Professional in 2001 after a successful amateur career during which I represented BB&O County and had the honour of playing alongside Luke Donald.

I qualified as Class A PGA Coach in 2004 achieving a merit. This put me in a fortunate position where I was able to learn not only the techniques that have been proven over the last 30 years, but also the modern techniques that we all see used by the Top Players today.

I have recently devised a Grass Roots Training programme for juniors as a feeder group for Middlesex County where I coach the Under 14’s Squad. I am also coach for the Harrow Boys School and have recently done an article for Golf Punk Magazine.

I regard myself as an extremely approachable and friendly person who specialises in coaching players of all abilities, from the total beginner to county player. I am very passionate about Golf and take great pride in my work as I understand how important Golf is to anybody playing the game. My “Goal” for every lesson is to make sure the customer goes away understanding exactly what is required for them to improve and more importantly HAPPY.

TESTIMONIALS

“In short, Gareth is an impressive coach and his attention to detail has provided me with a clear and concise simplification of the golf swing and it’s mechanics that has resulted in both an immediate and lasting improvement to my game.”

(James Clarke 9 handicap)

Gareth has had the unenviable task of deconstructing my middle aged ex golfer's bad habits that started from my teenage years!  This was in preparation for fierce competition at the newly joined golf club and also to prepare for the onslaught from my 10 year old son, who has also been receiving Gareth's wisdom for the last 18 months.  The initial signs are very good indeed.

My first tournament match play game at the club was comfortably secured 8&7 - positive thinking, consistent ball striking and demon putting were all evidence of progress under Gareth's tutelage.

Having been a complete beginner, my son now has a handicap and although my own game is progressing nicely, the only negative thoughts Gareth has instilled in me is that my son will overtake me within a year!

What are the secrets of our success apart from our own brilliance?  Well, .........Gareth is patient, supportive, positive and technical - these are the perfect attributes to encourage anyone just beginning the game or re-starting from many years off.  Lessons are built up to ensure solid foundations are made for lasting improvements.

What about for the kids?  Well,............Gareth keeps them interested, enthusiastic and has a real caring affinity with all the children.  He makes the game fun and develops an individual rapport with all of them - I think I can safely say that my son will have a lifetime's enjoyment for the game and that his enthusiasm has all stemmed from the fantastic introduction he has had from a true mentor.  Golf is a wonderful game that is best started young - I wish I had been lucky enough to have the coaching 30 years ago.................but I still have some hope, it's all about keeping positive and enjoying yourself - I've developed Gareth's values already!

Gareth has an exceptional eye for the golf swing coupled with the ability to explain simply what the issue is & how to approach solving the problem. In the last 5 years, I have had as many Pros, but it is only Gareth who has truly coached me in a holistic manner as opposed to piecemeal/pez despenser style you usually get. He makes you work & think during a lesson which for some people would test whether they truly are committed to improving their game. His approach is exactly what my game needs & the improvements from his tuition have surpassed my previous experiences. I could not recommend him higher.

Hafi Rahman

Our son has been taking golf lessons with Gareth for almost two years, and from complete beginner, he is now growing into a very accomplished player. Gareth has been fantastic in keeping Leon's motivation going, something very important with boys of this age! He provides excellent coaching and a fun environment. We really think that this has helped Leon in other areas of concentration also, and know that Leon now has a fantastic basis for a future of golf at whatever level he chooses - all thanks to Gareth's great patience and excellent coaching skills.

Lorna Acikalin

Over the last 18 months I have recieved a course of lessons from Gareth, mostly focusing on the general swing, but including course management, putting and the short game.  As well as playing better, I am now enjoying my golf a lot more.  He has what I feel are the crucial skills needed for a succesful sports coach; up to date theory, the ability to express himself clearly, patience and a sense of humour.  Most importantly he has a great deal of flexibility - if I don't 'get' a new idea he is happy to explain or show it another way.  Sometimes we work on the general feel of the swing, sometimes on small technical details.  Crucially he never allows me to get too bogged down with too many ideas - they are introduced gradually and only when the previous one has been assimilated.

Richard Corthine

Daniel has been attending lessons with Gareth for eighteen months and has thoroughly enjoyed every lesson. Gareth has mastered the difficult art of coaching children, with all their emotions, to such an extent Daniel has a permanent smile on his face during the lesson. Gareth applies humour, patience, and constant encouragement to the lessons and when added to his technical knowledge Daniel has improved with each lesson. Better still he cannot wait for the lessons to come around.

After taking up the game of golf late in life I had given up hope of becoming anything other than a high handicapper. However after a course of six lessons with Gareth I have already had my handicap reduced by four strokes. Gareth's knack of making everything appear so simple has made me wish I had been brave enough to have lessons earlier. He has given me the confidence to really go for it this year. Daniel and I will soon be playing the course together and Gareth has played a big part in that happening.

Gareth is a fine teacher, probably the best I’ve come across and certainly the most successful as I won two club ‘board’ competitions and cut two shots off my handicap after a course of lessons with him. The video facility is very useful and he knows how to make good use of it so that you feel included in the improvement process. He makes use of what you bring with you, you build on what you already do well which is a teaching approach I find best for me personally. I think he’s got a good eye for the swing whatever your level (I’m a mid-handicapper but friends off low single figures speak well of his teaching too) so a one-off lesson would be useful, but I’d recommend booking a short course to give yourself the best chance of achieving your goals.

To conclude – if you work hard and practise what you learn from Gareth you have an excellent chance of improving significantly. If I can do it, that must be true!

Tim Clamp

I first met Gareth over two years ago when I signed up my 9 year old son to the Young Masters Golf (YMG) course at Northwick Park on Saturday mornings. My son, James completed the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the YMG course under Gareth’s tuition.

James enjoyed his lessons with Gareth, who has a very engaging and friendly way with children. Now that James is playing on the Northwick Park course you can see the benefit of Gareth’s teaching coming out in his swing and striking of the ball.

As a result I decided to have a series of six lessons with Gareth to try to improve my swing and eradicate a mild slice. Gareth made an immediate impact not only on my swing but my whole game. I’m now driving straight; my short game and putting have improved and following a lesson on the course, my course management is much better.

I’ve had a number of lessons previously but Gareth has certainly been the only instructor who has made such an impact on my game. I would certainly recommend Gareth to anyone, whether just starting out or looking to improve on their game.

Paul Benson

"My distinctly average game has benefited greatly from Gareth's input. Whilst I am still some way behind Tiger Woods, all aspects of my game have improved. My irons are far straighter and I have much more of a clue on what has gone wrong in a disastrous shot. He has been an excellent teacher from day one combining endless patience with practical advice and most importantly always making lessons fun!"

James Kellsal

"Gareth is a extremely professional, patient and talented coach.  I've been playing gold for the past 3 months, however, having had just 3 lessons with Gareth my game has improved considerably in terms of technique and consistency.  I would encourage anyone starting out or needing to improve their game to get in touch with Gareth and the results will speak for themselves."
